In this project a new approach to secure the control of line circuit is designed. The main objective is to develop a Password based circuit breaker control system using a micro controller. It is a successfull project and proved very useful in protecting the life of the workers and to ensure safety and communication during electrical maintenance. The main objective of this project is to design a system, which can provide a password based access to the electrical lines. This system can be used in live applications also and the line man can get access to the power source with the help of the system. Here we connect the various components using I2C. The I2C is a serial communication standard, which is very suitable for digital interfaces. The micro controller is used to control the circuit breaker through the I2C. The I2C is a bidirectional serial communication bus. When the I2C device is sent a message from the master, the response is sent to the master and when the master sends a message to the slave, the slave responds. The response is sent back to the master and the slave receives the next message.
This project is a comprehensive solution to the above mentioned problem. In this system the substation can enter the password of the circuit breaker to switch OFF or ON the circuit. Now the line man may safely work out the repairs and may return to the substation to switch ON the circuit again. Now he needs to enter the password in order to switch ON the circuit. He can enter the correct password to switch ON the circuit. Every time he enters the password the corresponding electrical line will be switched ON or OFF, according to the password entered. Thus he can perform the necessary work and can re-enter the substation to switch ON the circuit again. The system also provides password storage using EEPROM. This system also makes it possible to change the password as and when needed for security purposes.
The main objective of this project is to design a system, which can provide a password based access to the electrical lines. This system can be used in live applications also and the line man can get access to the power source with the help of the system.
Steps:
Construction of the electronic lock circuit.
Construction of the keypad using pull-up resistors.
Arranging the appropriate resistors for the LED to shine.
Construction of a logic circuit to recognize the correct password.
Construction of the driver for the relay.
In this project, we are going to use a separate password for each electrical line to be protected. The password is stored in an EEPROM, interfaced to the microcontroller and it can be changed any time. We can use any kind of microcontroller of our choice. In this project we are using an 8 bit microcontroller of 16f877A family. A keypad is used to enter the password, which is then compared with the predefined password. If the entered password is correct then the corresponding electrical line is turned ON or OFF. In order to make sure that the correct password is entered, another LED is used to indicate the wrong attempt. If the wrong attempt is made by the user for changing the password, an alert will be actuated, indicated by another LED. The system is fully controlled by the microcontroller. A VUSB based USB communication module is used for data transmission between the microcontroller and the main control unit. A small LED is used to indicate the connection between the microcontroller and the main control unit. A relay is also used for closing or opening the circuit breaker. The circuit is interfaced with the microcontroller using TTL level, using a RS232 level shifter circuit. An external power supply is used in this project. A LED indicates the ON and OFF state of the circuit breaker. Other LEDs indicate the correct or wrong attempt to enter the password and the correct or wrong attempt to open the circuit breaker.
